The Redskins are sitting with a 7-7 straight-up record (with the same mark against the football pointspread) and they can clinch the division title in the NFC East with a victory here. The Eagles, who are 6-8 both straight-up and against the spread, can guarantee themselves the division title with a win in the two remaining games against the Redskins and the New York Giants. So it’s simple, right?

Washington might be the team that comes in with more momentum, having emerged victorious in three of its last four games. The Redskins reached something of a milestone last week, as they won their second game in a row for the first time this season. And it looks like they have at least some working parts on the offensive end as they move into this road showdown.

The Eagles had an opportunity to shine last week but lost against what is admittedly a vastly superior Arizona Cardinals team (40-17), but they had shown some signs of life with victories over New England and Buffalo prior to that.

Philadelphia lost a pair of cornerbacks last week, when Byron Maxwell suffered a shoulder injury and Eric Rowe went out with a concussion. So they are not deep back there. And it is just their luck that DeSean Jackson is making big plays for the Redskins once again. He caught a 77-yard touchdown from Kirk Cousins last week, reinforcing his reputation as one of the most prominent big-play receivers in the NFL.

And meanwhile, Cousins has tossed only two interceptions in his last six games, as he continues to gain backers. Now the only speculation in the nation’s capital is what they are going to do with Robert Griffin III next year.

We have been telling BetAnySports patrons this all season long, but Washington needs to figure out how to run the ball with some consistency. Between Matt Jones and Alfred Morris, there are only four touchdowns on the ground, and 3.5 yards per carry. Ryan Matthews, on the Philadelphia side, has demonstrated more explosiveness. Meanwhile, everyone is still waiting for DeMarco Murray (3.4 ypc) to finally show what he’s got.

The fact is, maybe this game will be determined by the team that can advance the ball by land the best. Certainly the respective defenses are inviting enough – the Redskins allow 4.9 yards per carry, while Philadelphia surrenders 4.5 yards a pop on the ground.
