    For Jacksonville, this would appear to be another step in the rebuilding process. But they don’t want to be one of those clubs that is doing such a thing all the time. Blake Bortles took his lumps as a rookie, but the team is expecting more out of him as a second-year quarterback. Last season he threw for 2908 yards and 11 touchdowns, but he was intercepted 17 times and was experiencing arm problems most of the way – at least that is what has been revealed recently.

    Carolina got a gutsy performance out of Cam Newton last season, is the former Heisman Trophy winner overcame ankle and rib injuries, in addition to a serious car accident, to get this team to the post-season with a record of 7-8-1, as well as a first-round playoff victory over Arizona. But Newton may have to upgrade his numbers for the Panthers to take the next step; he was only 58.5% accurate, with an 18-12 ratio of touchdowns to interceptions.

    Nobody seemed to want the NFC South title last season, and it is interesting to note that the boo birds were out for Carolina coach Ron Rivera, calling for his firing before his team finally came down the stretch with four straight victories to earn the right to advance to the next stage. There appears to be a never ending search for help at the wide receiver position, and while it was fortuitous that Kelvin Benjamin became a nice contributor as a rookie (73 catches, 1008 yards, nine touchdowns), he still needs people aside from tight end Greg Olsen to complement him. So Devin Funchess was the second-round draft choice out of Michigan, and Jarrett Boykin and Ted Ginn were signed as a free agents. There are no notable enhancements to the backfield, so in the wake of the departure of DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart will have to shoulder more of a burden.
