Super Bowl Betting – Pats vs Seahawks: What You May Not Know Could Help You
By Charles Jay
If you think that the New England Patriots are just going to go out and mow down the Seattle Seahawks defense, like they have with so many stop units, you may be in for a surprise, at least based on past performances in the Super Bowl. That is part of what you’ll find if you look closely at some of the numbers. Maybe, as BetAnySports patrons, you can look into some of those numbers and facts that you might not have been aware of before, and this can provide some influence as to which way you are going to wager at BetAnySports for Sunday’s game, which is scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM ET at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ.
One of the things that probably wouldn’t shock you to much is the fact that the Patriots have scored a point for every 12.2 yards they have gained, which would seem to demonstrate great efficiency. Well, actually it IS very efficient; in fact, that is the most economical offense in the NFL, which is a good characteristic to take into this game, since the Pats have actually gained fewer yards than Seattle on an overall basis. See what kind of things you can find out?
Here is something else you may not know unless you are watching closely – this game is a pick’em proposition as it is currently listed at BetAnySports:
Super Bowl Betting Preview
New England Patriots pick
Seattle Seahawks
Over 47.5 points -110
Under 47.5 points -110
As you know, under Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, the Patriots have made it to five Super Bowls. The perception may be that the Pats got to the Big Game with an explosive offense, and to a certain extent, if you made that assumption, you would be right. But New England has been anything BUT explosive in these games. In these previous five Super Bowl games, the team has averaged only 19.2 points. This offensive machine had achieved almost fearful levels in the last two seasons where they have made it there. In the 2007 season, when they went into the final against the New York Giants, they averaged 36.8 ppg and were undefeated. Four seasons later, Brady had directed the Pats to 32 points a game as they again met up with the Giants. They scored just 14 and 17 points in those games. That’s tame.
So it would be very optimistic for BetAnySports customers to think that the Patriots will move at a machine-like pace, regardless of ow efficient they appear to be on offense.
And when you look at what the Seahawks did against the Denver Broncos last year, it might have to go down in history as one of the mot impressive defensive efforts ever. The Broncos were, of course, led by Peyton Manning, who broke Brady’s record for touchdown passes. As a team, Denver has scored more touchdowns and more points than any other team ever had. Well, Seattle made them look positively pedestrian. Manning wound up with mostly “garbage” yards, and his 5.5-yard average per attempt was indicative of the difficulty he had moving his team down the field. And the Broncos were not able to advance the ball on the ground, with only 27 yards on fourteen carries. They did not score until the Seahawks had the game well in hand at 36-0. So there weren’t any truly meaningful points scored by the Broncos. Those wagering on Seattle here would dearly love to be able to duplicate that effort, or even come close to it.
