The New Orleans Saints are not completely out of the NFC wild-card race at the moment, but they are fading fast because they cannot stop anybody on defense. So head coach Sean Payton tried to remedy the situation by firing coordinator Rob Ryan, brother of Rex Ryan, and elevating former Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen as the defensive coordinator that will take the team forward. On Sunday the Saints will see how the new look works as they face off against the Houston Texans in a game that will begin at 1 PM ET at NRG Stadium in Houston. BetAnySports customers can take advantage of reduced juice wagering before the kickoff, and then afterward, they can partake in Live Betting Extra, which keeps them in the action throughout the proceedings.

New Orleans went through a stretch were actually won four out of five games, but in one of those they allowed 49 points to the New York Giants. Then it was four touchdown passes to the Tennessee Titans and rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota in an overtime loss, and the last straw was a 47-14 loss to the Washington Redskins which came before the bye week. At that point, Payton had to make his move, and he let the much-maligned Ryan go. At the moment, New Orleans has allowed 31.5 points per game and 425 yards per contest, but the bright side is that they are getting healthier, with some people, including cornerback Keenan Lewis, coming back to action.

Will this be a lost season for the Saints? Well, the pivotal game is going to come against these Texans, who are currently on a three-game winning streak in which they have allowed opponents to score just 29 points.

The guy who looked like he might be on his way out the door was Bill O’Brien, who made himself rather famous during the preseason as one of the stars of HBO’s “Hard Knocks” series, in which he filled the air with F-bombs. O’Brien clearly was mismanaging the quarterback situation with his team, until he settled on veteran Brian Hoyer, who did more than a serviceable job behind center. Hoyer suffered a concussion in a victory against the Cincinnati Bengals, and was replaced by TJ Yates, who in a previous tenure with the team had filled in for former starter Matt Schaub and started two playoff games. So Yates finished things up against the Bengals, helping Houston to end Cincinnati’s hopes for an unbeaten season, and then he led the team to a 24-17 victory over the Jets.

The guy who has been a constant all season for this team is DeAndre Hopkins, who has caught 76 passes for 1045 yards and nine touchdowns. He had considerable success, as BetAnySports customers know, against New York shutdown cornerback Darrell Revis, and we haven’t really seen that member of the Saints’ defense who is going to be able to slow him considerably.

On the other side of the coin, the challenge for the Texans’ defense will be to get some pressure on Drew Brees, who has had 20 touchdown passes on the season, while averaging eight yards per attempt. Brees is not untouchable; he has been sacked 23 times, and JJ Watt is now leading the league in sacks with 11.5. As football bettors know, he has the ability to change things in terms of the opponents’ offensive game plan.

Part of Houston’s offensive game plan, by the way, has to include getting something from the rushing game. So what can Alfred Blue, the LSU alumnus, do? He is averaging 3.3 yards per carry, and there are only four rushing touchdowns out of this team so far this season. Despite this, they are 5-5 and tied with the Indianapolis Colts for the lead in the AFC South.
