The NCAA is getting ready to carry through with their “noble experiment,” which involves four teams playing it off for the national championship. In the first of these two semi-final games, the Florida State Seminoles, who are the #3 seed, travel out to the west coast against the #2-seeded Oregon Ducks in the Rose Bowl. College football playoff betting action in Pasadena begins at 5 PM ET.

Florida State had a lot of “close shaves” this season, but managed to survive all of them on the way to a 13-0 straight-up record, although they have covered only three of their 13 games. Oregon is 12-1 straight-up and 9-4 versus the number. They are on a streak where they have won eight straight games, covering all of them against the college football pointspread.

As BetAnySports customers are well aware, this game pits the Heisman Trophy winners of the last two seasons against each other, as Marcus Mariota of the Ducks squares off against Jameis Winston of the Seminoles.

In the college football playoff odds that have been posted on this game, Oregon is laying some points:

    Oregon Ducks -7.5
    Florida State Seminoles +7.5

    Over 71 points -110
    Under 71 points -110

All of Oregon’s wins in this streak have come by double digits, and these included victories over UCLA, Stanford, Utah and Arizona. They are also coming off bowl wins in each of the last three seasons. Anyone who is familiar with them understands that the Ducks have huge numbers on offense, as they average 46.3 points and 545 yards per game.

Mariota’s numbers were absolutely out of this world. The Heisman winner had 38 TD passes and tossed just two interceptions in 372 attempts. He is obviously a threat to run, as he has tallied 669 yards and scored 24 touchdowns on the ground. In three years as Oregon’s QB, he has 101 TD passes and has been picked off just twelve times.

BetAnySports patrons know that Winston has not matched his performance from last season, as he forced 40 TD passes and had just ten interceptions in surging to the Heisman as a freshman. It was no secret that there were a multitude of distractions surrounding Winston this year, and perhaps that was reflected in his 24-17 TD-INT ratio. The fact is, however, that he had enough presence to lead several FSU comebacks, not the least of which was accomplished against Louisville, when the ‘Noles trailed by 21 points, but came roaring back with a 35-point second half against the team that had the #1 defense in the nation at the time.

With seven of their wins coming by six points or fewer, Florida State bears very little resemblance to their dominant squad from last season, or, for that matter, Oregon’s 2014 club. But then again, they have had plenty of experience in winning the close games. Could that be a difference-maker in this elimination contest? It is interesting to note that Oregon has only once trailed in the fourth quarter, and that was in the loss they suffered at the hands of Arizona.
