Ravens vs Jets October 23rd, 2016 – Week 7 NFL Betting Preview

  • Updated: October 21, 2016
  • Ravens vs Jets October 23rd, 2016 Week 7 NFL Betting PreviewThe New York Jets signed Ryan Fitzpatrick to a $12 million one-year contract before training camp, as he was cashing in on what may have been the most productive season in his journeyman-like career. Well, his play this year has contributed evidence to his reputation as a journeyman, it goes without saying. And now he is being replaced in what may or may not be a desperation move on the part of coach Todd Bowles. Geno Smith, who was literally knocked out of the lineup in the locker room last season, which brought Fitzpatrick the job in the first place, will make the start against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday at 1 PM ET at MetLife Stadium. Ravens vs Jets – CJ’s Take:

Fitzpatrick leads the league in interceptions with eleven, and six of those came in one game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Jets, who were third in the league in touchdown rate while in the red zone last season, are a non-factor in that regard during this dismal 2016 campaign, which included a last-second defeat to the Cincinnati Bengals in the opener. They have lost four straight games, looking less and less competitive, it seems, in each one.

Smith threw an interception after he entered last Monday’s game, and that has pretty much been the story for him in New York. He was originally a second-round draft pick, and Jets’ management tried to force-feed him into the starting job. It didn’t work, and it led to the firing of GM John Idzik and, ultimately, head coach Rex Ryan. The Jets have two other QB’s on the roster who might be considered promising – Bryce Petty, who has had injury problems this year and has just come back to practice, and this year’s second-round pick, Christian Hackenberg out of Penn State, who is considered not to be ready yet, owing to his lack of sound mechanics. Bowles had originally intended to keep Fitzpatrick as his starter, or so he said, but then he changed his mind the next day.

As far as Baltimore is concerned, well, BetAnySports patrons are probably pretty well-acquainted with their situation – they suffered a rash of injuries last year that led to disaster, and the injury big has started to hit them again now, on both sides of the football. Terell Suggs has a torn biceps and is going to try to play at last word. They’ve had a banged-up offensive line, and cornerback Jimmy Smith suffered a concussion last week against the Giants, in a game where the Raven defense surrendered a long TD play from Eli Manning to Odell Beckham on a fourth-and-one, which lost the game for them. After getting off to a 3-0 start, they have dropped their last three games. Before last week’s game, they fired offensive coordinator Marc Trestman and replaced him with Marty Mornhinweg. This will result in a “commitment to the run,” and that means plenty of Terrence West (414 yards, 4.7 ypc).

    Next up for both teams:

    • Baltimore home to Pittsburgh Sunday, November 6
    • New York at Cleveland Sunday, October 30
