Ravens vs Cowboys – CJ’s Take:

Dallas, of course, is led by quarterback Dak Prescott, a fourth-round draft pick out of Mississippi State, and Ezekiel Elliott, the first-rounder out of Ohio State. What you’ve got to admire about these Cowboys is that even with very young leadership, they were able to bounce back in hostile territory. They took the ball down the field in the final minute, and when it looked like they were simply angling for field goal range, Elliott burst through the Pittsburgh Steelers’ defensive line and went into the end zone untouched from 32 yards out.

Baltimore had a bit of a breather last time out, beating the winless Cleveland Browns 28-7. Joe Flacco was 25-for-33 on the evening, although he didn’t really venture too far down the field. The Ravens are currently sitting with a 5-4 record, which places them a game ahead of Pittsburgh in the AFC North, while the Cowboys have a two-game lead over the New York Giants in the NFC East, where everybody has a winning record.

When you look at some of Prescott’s numbers when he was pressured by the Pittsburgh pass rush, you have to come away even more impressed. He was 15-20 for 255 yards when he was blitzed, and you just don’t expect that kind of poise in the pocket from a rookie. Remember that he has been a sensation almost from the beginning, not playing like a guy who lasted until the fourth round, and those who have waited for him to implode have been disappointed so far, as he has thrown just two interceptions. And, well, all Elliott has done is lead the NFL in rushing this season. Both of them need to be in the discussion not just for the Rookie of the Year, but the MVP as well.

Those in the BetAnySports audience who have followed the Ravens know that they have suffered through some injury problems, although not nearly as much as they did last season, when they had to place 20 players on injured reserve. Some of this has come on the offensive line, and perhaps that is one of the factors involved in this team’s inability to run the ball on a consistent basis. And that was something Marty Mournhinweg, who recently replaced Marc Trestman as offensive coordinator, was looking to do. Some answers may come from rookie Kenneth Dixon, who like Prescott was a fourth-round draft choice, and who had 38 yards in six carries against Cleveland. They definitely have to try some things.

The Ravens’ defense might be able to keep them in the ballgame. They have held the opposition to 3.3 yards per carry, but then again, we saw how glittering Green Bay’s run defense numbers were, and Elliott ran right through them. Meanwhile, Dallas is still missing cornerback Morris Claiborne and safety Barry Church, and Ben Roethlisberger threw for 408 yards against the Cowboys, even with two of his wide receivers injured. What can Flacco do to take advantage of this?
