NHL Betting Preview – Lightning vs Rangers Game 7
Rangers Have Some History Going For Them as Game 7 Approaches
By Charles Jay
In NHL Betting – Lightning vs Rangers Game 7 and the odds that have been placed on this seventh and deciding game by the people at BetAnySports, the Rangers are the favorites:
New York Rangers -145
Tampa Bay Lightning +125
Over 5 goals -110
Under 5 goals -110
People should know not to count out the New York Rangers. This is a team that not only won the Presidents’ Trophy for having the best record in the National Hockey League, they were also deadly when going on the road, registering 28 victories as the visitor. And if that wasn’t enough, New York had a sizzling record in elimination games going into Game 6 at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, as they had won 14 of their last 17, but even those NHL bettors who were most optimistic about the Rangers’ chances against the Tampa Bay Lightning did not expect the onslaught they delivered.
Derek Brassard scored three goals and added two assists and the Rangers, who had been shut out on their own home ice just two nights prior, befuddled 6-foot-7 goaltender Ben Bishop on the way to a 7-3 victory. That sets up Game 7, which will take place at Madison Square Garden on Friday night, starting at 8 PM ET. Don’t forget that BetAnySports customers have the opportunity to place wagers on various propositions during the game through the magic of Live Betting Extra.
Very few people should be surprised at the Rangers’ resolve. They were on the ropes against the Washington Capitals in their previous series, but came back from a 3-1 deficit in games to defeat Washington, twice in overtime and once on the road to advance to the Eastern Conference finals. And guess what? In their last seven Game 7 situations at the Garden, they have been winners. The Lightning knew they really didn’t want to get into this situation, but they were simply overwhelmed.
Henrik Lundqvist made 36 saves on Tuesday night, and even though it wasn’t his greatest outing, you have to respect his veteran presence. He will be making his 111th playoff start in this one, and now, in the last 18 elimination games he has played in, his goals-against average is just 1.40. By contrast, Bishop has made only 19 playoff starts. In general, Tampa Bay is the much younger team, and it has been suggested by people who are leaning toward their side that having an extra day of rest may help them psychologically.
This series represented a contrast in styles, to a certain degree, and it was something that posed a handicapping challenge to NHL bettors at BetAnySports. Tampa Bay is generally used to a more wide-open game in which they look to simply out-gun the opposition. Meanwhile, the Rangers are little more defensive-minded, but you would not have guessed that from Tuesday’s slaughter.
So now things are working up into a frenzy around the New York area. Tickets are being re-sold for record amounts, and Ranger fans are getting excited about the opportunity to advance to the finals against the winner of the Anaheim-Chicago series (which had been undetermined as of this writing), as they have not won the Stanley Cup since 1994, which was in fact their only Cup victory since 1940.
