NFL Betting Lines – Bucs vs Browns
Browns and Bucs Both Have Miles to Go on Offense
By Charles Jay
The Cleveland Browns come into this week with some legitimate questions being asked about the productivity of their offense. And there are at least a few people who would like to see a certain former Heisman Trophy winner get an opportunity to play quarterback. That’s not going to happen this time (at least we don’t think), but the Browns would probably like to do a few things a little better as they line up to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team that has had many of the same problems, in NFL betting action that begins at 1 PM ET at First Energy Stadium in Cleveland.
Of course, BetAnySports customers are aware that Johnny Manziel was the first-round draft choice of this club, but that first-year coach Mike Pettinre made the decision to go with Brian Hoyer, a veteran player, as the starter. But they need to keep producing under Hoyer and they cannot use the absence of veteran center Alex Mack as an excuse. If you’re a handicapper, however, you may be pointing to that as the reason why Cleveland has had a relatively hard time moving the ball on the ground over the last two weeks.
In Tampa Bay, Mike Glennon continues to be the starter, as far as we can tell, but there is the pending return of Josh McCown lingering over the situation, although it is the subject of must question as far as whether McCown could actually give this offense a legitimate boost.
NFL betting lines – Bucs vs Browns:
Cleveland Browns -6.5 (-115)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers +6.5 (-105)
Over 43.5 points -110
Under 43.5 points -110
Tampa Bay was involved in a rather ugly affair this past weekend, as they generated only 225 yards of total offense against the Minnesota Vikings, who were rather inept themselves, hence an overtime period, during which Anthony Barr picked up a fumble and ran 26 yards in the end zone to give Minnesota the 19-13 win.
The Buccaneers gained only four yards per play, converting only one of their 12 third-down opportunities. Glennon had 19 completions in 28 attempts. The running game had only 66 yards. BetAnySports customers know that you’re not can win many contests with those kinds of numbers. However, NFL bettors who have backed Cleveland the last couple of weeks have had to sweat out some games were ther Browns just could not produce anything either.
The Browns were supposed to address their problems running the football in the off-season with the acquisition of Ben Tate, and on balance he hasn’t been that bad. However, they have less than two yards per carry over the last two games, and that has coincided with the loss of Mack, who was the anchor of the offensive line for years. When they hosted the Oakland Raiders, they led by only 9-6 score going into the final quarter before scoring a pair of touchdowns. But they only converted two of their 12 third downs, with only 25 minutes of possession time. They also allowed a rookie quarterback (Derek Carr) to complete 34 passes for 328 yards. So they have some work to do.
