NFL Betting – Bills vs Chargers
Bills Make Bid to Get Off to 3-0 Start vs. Chargers
By Charles Jay
The San Diego Chargers are coming off what was a very satisfying experience for them as they scored a win over the defending Super Bowl champions. Now they have to make the cross-country trek to Orchard Park, NY as they face off against the Buffalo Bills – make that the UNDEFEATED Buffalo Bills – in NFL Betting action that is set to begin at 1 PM ET.
San Diego was impressive on the offensive end as it beat the Seattle Seahawks 30-21 at Qualcomm Stadium on Sunday. That may have helped them get over the very disappointing come-from-ahead 18-17 defeat at the hands of Arizona in the opening game. After going to Soldier Field and beating the Chicago Bears in overtime, the Bills decisively beat the Miami Dolphins 29-10 last Sunday, and they are off to a 2-0 start (also 2-0 against the pro football pointspread).
Both of the quarterbacks – EJ Manuel of the Bills and Philip Rivers of the Chargers – have enjoyed time to throw, as they have each suffered only one sack through the first two games.
In the NFL betting lines that have been posted at BetAnySports, the Bills are slight favorites:
Buffalo Bills -2.5 (-115)
San Diego Chargers +2.5 (-105)
Over 45.5 Points -110
Under 45.5 Points -110
The Chargers are giving at least some indication that they can continue with some of the success through the air attack that they experienced last season. Rivers really benefited from the arrival of head coach Mike McCoy last season, and he has gotten out of the gate well, with four TD’s and 67% passing over these first two games. And anyone who thought that tight end Antonio Gates was slipping had better think again, as the possible future Hall of Famer has already caught thirteen passes for 177 yards.
NFL bettors know that Rivers is a proven commodity, but the jury is honestly still out on Manuel, who has done just fine thus far. He is 67% accurate, just like Rivers, and he is averaging even more yards per attempt (7.8). It has unquestionably helped that he has more speed at his disposal in the receiving corps. Sammy Watkins was, of course, the big pick-up, and the rookie has responded to the hoopla surrounding his arrival with 148 yards through the air in the first two games.
BetAnySports customers can be impressed with other aspects of Buffalo’s game, namely the way the Bills have pressured the quarterback. Last week they made it very difficult for Miami’s Ryan Tannehill to throw, as there were four sacks and five passes batted down. And CJ Spiller returned a kickoff for a touchdown. getting this guy loose is going to be very important, as he can change games running or receiving, not to mention on special teams. The flip side, of course, is that the Bills scored only one offensive touchdown last week; they had to settle five times for a Dan Carpenter field goal. But the 2-0 start makes people forget that just a couple of weeks ago, coach Doug Marrone was engaged in a shouting match with team executives on the practice field.
With the travel and early start, the Chargers may find their body clocks are “off.” And they are getting beaten at the line of scrimmage, averaging just 2.5 yards a carry, while allowing opponents to rush for 5.6 yards a pop.
