NBA Playoffs – Warriors vs Rockets Odds
By Charles Jay
NBA Playoffs – Warriors vs Rockets Odds: According to the figures supplied by BetAnySports, the Warriors are sizable favorites to win the series and advance to the Finals:
Golden State Warriors -850
Houston Rockets +575
Sometimes when we look at a game, or a series, what we see on the surface isn’t nearly enough. That’s why it is useful to have access to some of the “analytical” stats that are available around the Internet. There are NBA teams that rely on analytics a lot more than others, and one of them is the Houston Rockets, who have really taken a lead and are setting an example that other teams have followed. Well, the Rockets are in the Western Conference finals against Golden State Warriors, and as we look at this series, there are numbers that will tell us some very positive things about both teams.
Of course, there are also some numbers that will indicate weakness. For the purposes of basketball playoff betting information, let’s offer some of these numbers to the BetAnySports audience, keeping in mind that perhaps some of this will be pretty useful for you to have at your disposal when you engage in action after the opening whistle through the facilities of Live Betting Extra.
Let’s start out with some of the simple things. Golden State led the league in scoring this season with an average of 110 points per game. What was also remarkable about this squad is that they gave up slightly less than 100 points per game (99.9, to be exact). That means their average margin was about +10, and that is not often seen in the NBA. Naturally, when you can hold opponents to 42.8% shooting from the field, as Golden State as (leading the league in that category as well), you’re going to come up with such margins. The Rockets were not exactly pedestrian by comparison, as they allowed only 44.3% from the field overall. But where Houston really came up strong was in their defense against the three-pointer, as they led the NBA by allowing only 32.2% from beyond the arc. That is something they certainly hope will hold as they go up against a Golden State squad that was best in the NBA in three-point accuracy, making 39.8% of all attempts. The Warriors also come with a dynamic duo of long-range shooters, as Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson ranked 1-2 in three-point field goals made. James Harden of the Rockets was fourth on the list this season.
One area where Harden, the NBA’s runner-up in the Most Valuable Player voting, came up really big was in the area of free throws. He attempted 824 on the season, which was a whopping 170 more than the next closest competitor, Russell Westbrook of Oklahoma City. Hardin also made 715 of those shots, which put him 169 ahead of Westbrook. On the negative side, Hardin, who also led the NBA in minutes played, also turned the ball over the most, committing 321 miscues, and he isn’t even the point guard for the Rockets. However, he did have more than twice as many assists as any player in the Houston Rockets roster during their previous series against the Los Angeles Clippers.
As BetAnySports patrons know, Harden could not match the accuracy of Curry at the line, however. The winner of the MVP award sank 91.4% of his attempts, leading five players who were over the 90% mark.
One of the reasons why the Warriors were so formidable on the defensive side was the emergence of Draymond Green as a guy who could stop the opposition. In terms of the Defensive Rating formula, Green compiled a 97.2, which was fourth best in the league. Interestingly enough, the Golden State center, Andrew Bogut, a former #1 overall draft choice, was second in the league with 96.8. The league leader was also the man who was voted Defensive Player of the Year, Kawhi Leonard of San Antonio, who actually had fewer first place votes then Green did. One area where Houston was vulnerable on the defensive end was on the glass, as they pulled down only 72.9% of available defensive rebounds, which was just 28th best in the NBA. But consider that Dwight Howard, perennially one of the league’s best rebounders, only played 41 games in the regular season.
