Stephen Curry rolled his ankle in Game 1 of the Western Conference playoffs against the Houston Rockets, an injury that has required him to miss Sunday practice because of treatment. The proposition that maybe the Golden State Warriors should rest him for Game 2 has been brought up, although the Rockets are maintaining that they don’t expect him to miss any time, and even suggesting, subtly, that the injury story that has leaked might even be a ruse. Whatever the status of the league’s reigning MVP, the show must and will go on at 10:35 PM ET at the Oracle Arena, and BetAnySports customers will be able to get reduced juice beforehand and place wagers after the opening whistle using the state-of-the-art software available through Live Betting Extra.

The Warriors, who, including the playoffs, are now 74-9 straight-up (and 45-35-3 ATS as well) only shot 43% in Game 1 of the series, but took advantage of a lot of Houston mistakes, including 24 turnovers, and forced the Rockets into 36% shooting. They led 60-33 at the half and, well, it was just a laugher all the way. James Harden and the rest of the Rockets have to be scratching their heads, wondering what they have to do to even keep things close. This team is actually under the .500 mark with Saturday’s 104-78 loss (41-42 SU, 37-46 ATS), and of course, this is a far cry from last year’s edition, which got to the Western finals. Coach JB Bickerstaff, who took over when Kevin McHale was fired early on, will try to make some adjustments in his lineup so that this series doesn’t start to get out of hand.

Resting Curry could be a strategic move, at least when it comes to this particular opponent, which just doesn’t seem to match up too well with Golden State. The Rockets have lost 12 of the last 13 meetings, and they just can’t seem to put together an effective small lineup to deal with what the Warriors have to offer.

Remember that the San Antonio Spurs, who loom as the most likely opponent for the Warriors in the conference finals, have turned the rationing of minutes into an art form. You can bet they are fresh as they enter the post-season, and BetAnySports patrons can only imagine the handicap that could be created if Curry has to carry a sore ankle into a series like that.

And let’s face it – there are plenty of “guns” around with which the Warriors can do battle. Klay Thompson was the second-most prolific three-point shooter in the NBA (behind Curry) and there are very few people in the NBA who can fill a tat sheet quite like Draymond Green, who averaged 14 points, 9.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists – leading Golden State in the latter two departments. And the role players abound, including Shaun Livingston, who can fill in at point guard in place of Curry if need be.
