    A lot of people are up in arms over the decision on the part of Carmelo Anthony to actually sit out again in order to rest himself up to play in an exhibition, and then quite possibly turn around and sit out the rest of the regular season, as if the “real” games didn’t matter as much as the exhibition that serves more as a one-on-one showcase than anything else.

Anthony has stated that if this team was battling for a post-season spot, it might be a different story. But since they aren’t, he is going to rest up his knee, possibly with an eye toward eventual free agency.

    It certainly couldn’t be with an eye toward the fans who pay his salary – yeah, it was a nice gesture for Carmelo to make an appearance in the All-Star game, but when you are suddenly healthy enough to play 30 minutes in the streetball exhibition but could not play in a game with your teammates needed you, it is quite possibly a sad comment on where the NBA really stands right now. The unselfishness that is currently being exhibited in places like Golden State, San Antonio and Atlanta is the exception rather than the rule. It is inconceivable that in any other sport an athlete would “rest up” to play in a game where the individual comes first. But Jimmy Butler of the Chicago Bulls also did this, and there should be no doubt in the minds of BetAnySports patrons that Dwyane Wade would have done it if at all possible (it wasn’t).

    With Anthony, it’s just really part of a pattern. He could not adapt to playing with others in Denver; he sabotaged Mike D’Antoni’s coaching reign in New York when he refused to get with the system, and while he is a member of the New York lineup, you could pretty much forget about employing the Triangle offense. Anthony style of play is antithetical to ball movement, because all too often he wants the ball in his hands for a one-on-one isolation. No team will ever win an NBA championship with Carmelo Anthony as the best, or even the second-best player. And the idea that Phil Jackson has been going out of his way to keep him in New York is probably the biggest gaffe the has committed out of many in his brief tenure as the team’s chief executive.
