Right now the Penske Racing team has the top three drivers on the Indy Car circuit, and they are among the favorites to win in the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500, which will take place at 12:15 PM ET at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

BetAnySports customers are very familiar with Helio Castroneves, who has three victories in this event, and will be taking another crack at joining three other drivers as four-time winners of the most prestigious event in order racing. Only AJ Foyt, Rick Mears and Al Unser have captured the checkered flag three times at the Brickyard.

And Castroneves, who won this event in 2001, 2002 and 2009, has been through some heartbreak along the way. Last year, he lost by six one-hundredths of a second to the winner, Ryan Hunter Reay, and just this past week in practice he flipped his car. That was part of a pretty rough stretch for him, as he also had to take an eight-point penalty for unruly driving in the Grand Prix of Indianapolis, which was held at the same venue a couple of weeks ago on the infield. Nonetheless, he comes in priced that +700 at BetAnySports, higher odds than teammate Simon Pagenaud (+525), who will be sitting on the front row.

The guy who won the pole here, however, is the favorite. Scott Dixon is priced at +475, and he is a past winner of this race, although that was back in 2008.

Of course, the Indy 500 is run over 200 laps on the 2.5-mile course, with a field of 33 drivers. Dixon is joined on the front row by the aforementioned Pagenaud and another Penske driver, Will Power. Juan Pablo Montoya, who many BetAnySports customers know from his stint in NASCAR, is also part of the Penske team and is priced at +800, with a poor starting position of 15th. Montoya is unquestionably one of the great drivers in the world, having won this event, as well as the Grand Prix of Monaco, which is also being held on Sunday.

Mishaps during practice marred the past couple weeks at Indy, with many accidents, including one that knocked James Hinchcliffe out of the race. He flipped, crashed and in a bizarre twist one of the parts of his car went into his leg, requiring surgery.

One of the very interested spectators on Sunday will be David Letterman, who just wrapped up a 33-year run in late-night television but will be on hand to cheer on his own driver. That’s right; Letterman is the co-owner of the car driven by Graham Rahal, the son of IndyCar legend and former 500 winner Bobby Rahal. The young Rahal, who is a longshot at +4100, has had two second-place finishes this season. So far, all of the IndyCar races have been on the road or street courses, so this will be the first oval, and it is far and away the biggest event.

There may be some people surprised that Hunter Reay is priced at +2800 at BetAnySports, inasmuch as he was last year’s champion, but so much depends on where you start from, and he will be in the #16 spot.

There are two women in this race, and neither one of them is Danica Patrick, who is full-time in NASCAR right now. But carrying the torch for the distaff side will be Simona de Silvestro (+12500) and Pippa Mann, who also crashed during practice and injured herself, but will make the start anyway, although oddsmakers don’t give her much of a chance, with a price tag of +18500.
