    Football Betting Panthers vs Ravens

If the Carolina Panthers have lost some confidence, you really couldn’t blame them, not after the pathetic performance in the second half of last Sunday night’s game against Pittsburgh. Now Carolina has to gather itself and travel for game against the Baltimore Ravens, in football betting action at BetAnySports that is slated to begin at 1 PM ET at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.

The Panthers actually didn’t play well at all last weekend, but they had held the Steelers to three field goals in the first half and were down 9-3, before things exploded in the second half. The Steelers scored four touchdowns and did whatever they wanted on the ground. And their defense, which had gotten praise throughout the league, going back to their division title last season, is all of a sudden the NFL’s worst against the run, allowing more than six yards a carry.

Baltimore was the team that was supposed to be disheartened; after all, they had to cut loose their best running back, Ray Rice, because of the scandal everyone has already read about. But since Rice was released, they have won two games in a row, including a dismantling of the same Pittsburgh team that manhandled Carolina last week.

We would freely admit that Carolina misses one of its best defensive players, who is essentially out of action for the same reason Rice is out of action. Greg Hardy is awaiting trial on a domestic assault case, so he is not available. But you can’t blame Carolina’s defensive woes on his absence alone. Yes, the defense may change a little when he’s not there, but there was simply no excuse to allow two different Pittsburgh running backs to go over the 100-yard mark. Baltimore does not show that kind of bruising running game; in fact, BetAnySports customers know that they are still trying to find their way around things as Rice is gone and Bernard Pierce has been dealing with an injury. However, with Lorenzo Taliaferro and Justin Forsett, they may be well taken care of.

As football bettors know, because they realize the media loves to create storylines, much of the focus on this game is going to be on Baltimore’s newest wide receiver, Steve Smith, who carved out a career that made him one of the best players in Carolina’s history. Apparently they didn’t want him anymore, and he has come over to the Ravens and been a smash so far, hauling in 18 passes from quarterback Joe Flacco for 290 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown grab and a big catch on the final drive last Sunday that led to the field-goal which beat the Cleveland Browns with time running out.

At the same time, Smith’s departure leaves Carolina in the same position it was before – without two wide receivers who can cause any worry on the part of the opposing defensive coordinator. The Panthers seem to have made a wise choice when they plucked Kelvin Benjamin in the first round out of Florida State, and indeed he is paying dividends right away, with 16 catches for 253 yards. But when it comes to wideouts, he does not have anyone to take the pressure off him. That was Smith’s problem for many years in Charlotte. Carolina is also handicapped because it does not have the sheer rushing talents of quarterback Cam Newton at their disposal. Newton is suffering from a rib injury, and they don’t want him taking chances. If Carolina doesn’t find a solution fast, the Ravens may be a very good play at -3 in the NFL betting odds at BetAnySports, where you can get a great free play bonus and wager on NFL games as they are happening through the magic of Live Betting Extra.
