Eagles vs Cowboys October 30th, 2016 – Week 8 NFL Betting Preview

  • Updated: October 27, 2016
  • Eagles vs Cowboys October 30th, 2016 Week 8 NFL Betting PreviewThe Philadelphia Eagles were in danger is sliding last week, as they were on a two-game losing streak and were facing the Minnesota Vikings, an undefeated squad that was coming in with a payback-minded quarterback. But Sam Bradford was flustered, to say the least, as he was sacked six times and suffered his first interception of the season. And the Eagles blasted through with a 21-10 victory. Now they will face another hot club as they visit the Dallas Cowboys, who, like Minnesota, ride a five-game winning streak coming into their game with Doug Pederson’s squad. Game time is 8:30 PM ET for NBC’s Sunday night telecast, and BetAnySports customers will have the chance to watch the game and place wagers while it is happening, using the state-of-the-art software of Live Betting Ultra to make their NFL betting picks.

Eagles vs Cowboys – CJ’s Take:

To use a common expression, the Cowboys ain’t no joke. They have overcome the loss of QB Tony Romo in a big way, as now there is full-blown controversy as to what they should do. Is it better to leave him on the bench while the rookie takes his turn? Dak Prescott has been awesome, with almost 69 completions, 8.2 yards an attempt and only one interceptions in 182 passes. That is incredible for anyone, but this guy is a fourth-round draft pick out of Mississippi State, who is definitely proving that he belongs in the league. And he is getting a little help from his friends, as we’ll explore in a moment.

This game actually matches up a pair of rookie quarterbacks, as the Eagles stick with Carson Wentz (1324 yards, 8 TD’s, three INT’s), who had the handicap of missing much of training camp with a rib injury. And of course, he got the job as the starter only after the Eagles dealt away Bradford.

Those quarterbacks have to take a back seat to someone when it comes to rookie of the year votes, as Ezekiel Elliott is burning up the league, to the tune of 703 rushing yards. Obviously he takes some of the pressure off Prescott, who has a special kind of rapport with Cole Beasley, who’s got 33 receptions. The Cowboys are expecting to have the services of Dez Bryant this week. Bryant was sidelined with a leg injury, and we know what kind of “big” personality he has. So you’ve got to wonder what the chemistry on the field is going to be like, because Prescott has found him only eleven times this year.

Naturally, there should be no surprise on the part of BetAnySports patrons that Dallas is first in the league in rushing, and they also rank #1 in yards gained per drive (with 41.14). They appear to have done pretty well on defense, as they have allowed more than 20 points only once. They are, however, 28th in yards allowed per drive. But they are looking to get back a couple of defensive starters who have been hurt – Orlando Scandrick, a corner, and defensive end Demarcus Lawrence.

The Philadelphia defense, which is, of course, tutored by Jim Schwartz, likes to make big plays. They have 20 sacks and have forced fumbles more frequently than any other unit. They are also among the NFL’s five best defenses in the red zone (both in points and TD’s allowed). These guys ought to be able to put some pressure on Prescott. But these Cowboys seem set to confound expectations; against Green Bay’s defense, which had yielded just two yards a carry, they ran all over the place behind Elliott.

    Next up for both teams:

    • Philadelphia at New York Sunday, November 6
    • Dallas at Cleveland Sunday, November 6
