  • Eagles May Give Untested QB Some Time vs. Cowboys

Cowboys vs Eagles Odds 2017 Week 17 NFL Betting PreviewThe Philadelphia Eagles did not look good on offense last week, but they have clinched home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs, and they don’t want to get anyone hurt. So head coach Doug Pederson is going to manage things a little differently on Sunday, and it could result in the team with the NFC’s best record employing a quarterback who has never taken a snap in an NFL game. That might spice up things against the Dallas Cowboys, in this matchup that kicks off at 1 PM ET at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Fox Network will televise the game on a regional basis, and if you are a BetAnySports customer, you can place wagers even after the contest gets underway, utilizing what is available through Live Betting Ultra.

Cowboys vs Eagles Odds – Betting Preview

The Cowboys, who were “gifted” a couple of weeks ago against Oakland when Derek Carr fumbled the ball out of the end zone on what could have been a winning touchdown drive for the Oakland Raiders, ran out of luck last week against the Seattle Seahawks, even though it was the return of Ezekiel Elliott to the lineup after his six-game suspension. You can’t fault the defense; they held Russell Wilson to just 93 yards passing and the Seahawks to 76 yards on the ground. But a lot of the play-calling came into question as the Cowboys dropped a 21-12 decision. Elliott had 51 rushing yards in the very first quarter, but curiously, on some critical situations, they failed to get him the ball, including one instance where they had first-and-goal on the three-yard line.

The Eagles really struggled last week in beating the Raiders 19-10. And that got some fans worried, because Nick Foles is going to have to assume responsibility for getting this team to the Super Bowl. Carson Wentz, a legitimate MVP candidate, went down with a knee injury, and Foles has to take charge. But he looked confused last week, going just 19-38 on the evening, and in the process of gaining only 216 yards from scrimmage, the Philadelphia offense converted only one out of 14 on third-down.

The Eagles, who will get next week off, or 13-2 straight-up in 10-5 against the football pointspread. The Cowboys are 8-7 straight-up and 7-7-1 ATS. They are eliminated from any playoff consideration.

Jerry Jones said this week that head coach Jason Garrett’s job is secure for the 2018 season, but he did emphasize that the Cowboys will be looking at some young players this week. Pederson says he wants all of his starters to play, but it is very likely that he will treat this like a pre-season game, where they may see very limited action. There simply is no point in getting guys hurt, although the argument has been made that Foles, who did not see any appreciable playing time until three weeks ago against the Rams, could use some more action at live speed with the first-team offense.

BetAnySports patrons may not know much about the quarterback who will likely come in for Foles, but Nate Sudfeld is someone who offensive coordinator Frank Reich has said he is “turning heads” in practice. Seinfeld is in his second NFL season, out of Indiana University, and he has great size for quarterback, at 6-6 and around 230 pounds. He has never taken a snap in an NFL game, however, and so there is a motivation on the part of Pederson to get him some game experience, in the event he had to be called upon during the playoffs. So that gives you an idea about the mindset of the Eagles coming into this one. And we imagine there are some Dallas players would love to get some payback for the 37-9 defeat they suffered at the hands of the Eagles on November 19, in which Dak Prescott threw three interceptions and Elliott was not available in the backfield.
