It’s a fight that is finally happening, although in the opinion of some skeptics, quite a bit too late. Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao have become major pay-per-view attractions, and now they get together in what is expected by many to be the highest-grossing fight in the history of the sport. The action will begin late Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, which was reportedly sold out within minutes for this boxing betting spectacular.

Mayweather is 47-0 with 26 knockouts and has been undefeated since he turned pro in 1996. Pacquiao is 57-5-2 with 38 KO’s and is on a modest three-fight winning streak after two straight defeats. Yet a lot of people are giving the Filipino hero a chance. Does he have one? Some fight experts are affording him one, simply on the basis of his ability to sustain an attack plan for the full twelve rounds. But it is unlikely that he has faced someone with the boxing ability of Mayweather.

Let’s take a look at the boxing betting odds as they are posted at BetAnySports on this bout:

    Floyd Mayweather -200
    Manny Pacquiao +170

    Over 11.5 Rounds -280
    Under 11.5 Rounds -240

If there is something a lot of the experts can agree on, is that this bout is likely to go the distance, and that is reflected in the wagering odds. Mayweather has gone 12 rounds five straight times, with his last KO coming in 2011 over Victor Ortiz. But in his last 12 fights, only two of them have ended inside the distance. As for Pacquiao, his last seven wins have come via 12-round decision. Of course, another of his bouts was a defeat, suffered at the hands of Tim Bradley, which was hotly disputed and, in the opinion of most ringside observers, should have gone to Manny instead of Bradley on the rather controversial call.

Boxing betting fans who have expressed some support for Pacquiao point to his rather unorthodox southpaw style and his aggressiveness as reasons he should be afforded a tremendous chance to win, if not an edge over the undefeated Mayweather. Of course, in this day and age, fighters are constantly moving up in weight, and for Pacquiao, who won his first world championship at the flyweight level, being a welterweight makes it much more difficult to carry an appreciable amount of power with him. So he will have to try to stay busy, and BetAnySports customers know that he has been pretty good at that. Most impressively over the last couple of years, he was able to get a measure of revenge over Bradley in April of last year when he scored a unanimous decision victory.

Some of Mayweather’s critics point to the proposition that he may have avoided this fight for quite some time. That may or may not be the case, but “Money” signed a huge deal with Showtime that allowed him to more or less pick his opponents, and he has picked a couple of tough ones along the way. One of them was Canelo Alvarez, who came into the fight with a 42-0-1 record, and he easily beat the undefeated Mexican, even though he only got the majority decision. He had a much tougher time with Marcos Maidana the next time out, as the unorthodox style gave him fits. But in the Maidana rematch, it was much smoother sailing, as he won an easy unanimous decision.

The big question for boxing betting analysis is whether he will be able to handle the unorthodox style of Pacquiao. Mayweather says he does not study films of opponents, so even though he has obviously seen this foe before, everything may be relatively new to him.
