Bet on NFL – 49ers vs Eagles
49ers Have to Cure Second-Half Woes Against Eagles
By Charles Jay
If you are looking to bet on NFL Games, check out the NFL betting odds that a been placed on this game at BetAnySports. The 49ers are the favorites at home:
San Francisco 49ers -5
Philadelphia Eagles +5
Over 50.5 Points -110
Under 50.5 Points -110
What happens when you put the league’s best second-half team against the worst? Well, you have the makings of some very interesting NFL betting propositions at BetAnySports. Such is the case for Sunday’s action between the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers, who get together at 4:25 PM ET at the brand-new Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
For the Niners, a rough start is nothing new; they went through something similar last season. However, what is a major concern for Jim Harbaugh and his staff is the way this team has performed after halftime. In the three games so far, they have scored a TOTAL of three points in the second half. Meanwhile, the Eagles have been like the “comeback kids,” as they have come back from double-digit deficits in all three of their games, adding to the thrills last week when they defeated the Washington Redskins 37-34.
Football bettors are well aware that the Eagles turn up the tempo when they play, and that will put pressure on a San Francisco defense that is clearly not as solid as it has been in the previous couple of seasons. That is not to say that Philadelphia is a well-oiled machine just yet. There are some offensive line problems, primarily caused by injuries, that the 49ers might be able to exploit.
How significant is Philadelphia’s achievement been so far? Well, they are, as far as anyone can tell, the only team in NFL history to fall behind by at least ten points in each of the first three games on its schedule and come back to win all three. Of course, when you operate as quickly as the Eagles have the capacity to, you also have the ability to make up points in a hurry. What has unfolded so far is actually somewhat surprising, when you consider that LeSean McCoy, who led the NFL in rushing last season, has really not done very much. In fact, McCoy has averaged just 2.9 yards per carry and 5.8 yards per reception.
NFL bettors know that the running back who has made a real difference thus far is Darren Sproles, the little guy who has per been the perfect dual threat, averaging almost seven yards per rushing attempt and catching 14 passes, which ranks second on the club. There are a lot of BetAnySports patrons who think the New Orleans offense has suffered greatly, now that they don’t have Sproles. He is an ideal fit in Chip Kelly’s attack.
San Francisco’s defense seems to be going through transition. Three of the four secondary starters had to be replaced, and then there are the absences of linebackers Aldon Smith (suspension) and NaVorro Bowman (injury). This defense was a hard time getting off the field; in fact, the 49ers have allowed their opponents to convert almost 52% of their third-down opportunities. You really can’t fault the offense all that much, as Colin Kaepernick has completed 70% of his passes and Stevie Johnson has been a welcome addition to what has become a threatening three-wide receiver set, but San Francisco, which balances it’s all offensive attack pretty well, needs to get a little more volume going on the ground. That will serve a dual purpose – by moving the sticks and keeping the Eagles off the field.
But there is still that problem with Philadelphia being a second-half team. They have outscored their opponents 74-24 in the final 30 minutes, and so something has to happen with halftime adjustments to keep San Francisco from losing another lead.
