Obviously there are going to be a lot of storylines when the Cincinnati Bengals and Arizona Cardinals get together for Sunday night football on NBC. Not only are these two teams seemingly headed to the playoffs, but there is of course the “Carson Palmer factor” whenever the former Heisman Trophy winner goes up against his former team.

Cincinnati has an 8-1 record, having suffered its first defeat last week against the Houston Texans in a Monday night test. Meanwhile, Arizona is once again playing on Sunday night, having vanquished the Seattle Seahawks 39-32, but not without some drama, in their last ballgame, as they blew a big lead, then had to come from behind. With that victory, Arizona is in pretty good shape in the NFC West, with a three-game lead over Seattle and St. Louis.

    Bengals vs Cardinals Betting Trends:

    Cincinnati Bengals:

    • Season record: 8-1 straight up, 7-1-1 against the spread
    • Cincinnati is 8-0-1 straight up in their last 9 games
    • Cincinnati is 4-1 against the spread in their last 5 games on the road
    • Cincinnati is 4-1 straight up in their last 5 games on the road

    Arizona Cardinals:

    • Season record: 7-2 straight up, 6-3 against the spread
    • Current Streak: won 3 straight games
    • Arizona is 15-7 ATS in their last 22 games
    • Arizona is 4-1 straight up in their last 5 games
    • The total has gone OVER in 8 of Arizona’s last 10 games

Cincinnati not only went into that last game against Houston with a perfect record, but they were also 7-0-1 against the football pointspread. So you don’t so easily want to look to the home team here. Andy Dalton has, for the most part, been a model of efficiency, with 18 touchdowns against only five interceptions, and a per-pass average of 8.2. But you know what? Carson Palmer actually has a higher quarterback rating, with 23 touchdown passes and almost nine yards per attempt. As pro football bettors may recall, Palmer was with the Bengals for eight years, then begged for a way out, to the extent that he actually announced a “retirement” to affect a trade.

Arizona is in the enviable position where it not only gains more yards per drive than any other offense in the NFL, but the Cardinals are also second best in the league in terms of yardage allowed on defense on a per-drive basis. So they are, to put it simply, quite possibly the most efficient team in the NFL right now.

Yes, that’s a a mouthful to say, considering BetAnySports customers are well aware that there are undefeated teams like the Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots out there. But with Palmer healthy and well protected, this attack unit has really had an opportunity to shine. It has not hurt that Chris Johnson, who was considered almost an incidental pickup during the latter stages of the pre-season, has rushed for 734 yards.

Perhaps the Cards could get a better pass rush on (only 15 sacks so far), but they are damn good in coverage, permitting only 58.5% completions and pulling down 14 interceptions. They might just have one of the two or three best secondaries in all of football. And that will unquestionably be a challenge for Andy Dalton, as well as the receiving corps, including tight end Tyler Eifert, who made some key drops against Houston last time out.
