Vikings vs Eagles October 23rd, 2016 – Week 7 NFL Betting Preview
If this was six weeks ago, very few people would have bet on the Minnesota Vikings to be in the position they are right now, where they are considered by many experts to be one of the favorites to go to the Super Bowl on behalf of the NFC. They are undefeated and looking very good right now, even though they are playing without a quarterback, running back and left tackle who are Pro Bowl players. Now they put their unbeaten mark at risk as they visit the City of Brotherly Love for a game with the Philadelphia Eagles, beginning at 1 PM ET at Lincoln Financial Field. BetAnySports customers have the opportunity to watch this game live as it is televised regionally by Fox Network, and place wagers on it as it is happening through the magic of Live Betting Ultra.

Vikings vs Eagles – CJ’s Take:
The interesting part about this game, from a human interest standpoint, is that Sam Bradford, the quarterback who has led Minnesota to its 5-0 record, was traded just seven weeks ago from Philadelphia. Bradford was not a happy camper when this team made a trade to move up for the #2 overall pick in the NFL Draft, because he knew there were going to take a quarterback. And he wanted trade from that point forward. He got his wish, as the Vikings gave a #1 and #4 pick to the Eagles, a move that was necessitated after Teddy Bridgewater suffered a season-ending knee injury during training camp. And Bradford has been brilliant in his role, with six touchdowns, no interceptions and a 70% completion rate, the latter of which leads the NFL.
Bradford has had to be on the mark, because Adrian Peterson, one of the better running backs of our generation, suffered an injury in the second game of the season, and there is no telling when he’ll be back in action. Of course, the Vikings can stop people; they allowed only 12.6 points per game this season, and nobody in the league has been stingier. This is truly a team that has been molded in head coach Mike Zimmer’s image.
Bradford thought he would be the starting quarterback for the Eagles, as he was last season. And indeed that was probably going to be the case, although for how long, nobody knows. Carson Wentz, who they took with that second overall draft pick, was pushed into the starting role after the trade, and he has adapted very well to the pro game, with a 65% completion rate and just one pickoff. That is not to say that the Philadelphia offens is running smoothly; they encountered a serious speed bump last week against the Washington Redskins, gaining just 239 overall yards on offense and a dozen first downs. They were fortunate to be able to keep things close with an interception return and kickoff return for touchdowns in the 27-20 loss, but Jim Schwartz’s defense kind of fell apart, allowing the Redskins 230 yards on the ground.
Of course, as BetAnySports patrons know, Bradford can give his team a pretty good scouting report on Philadelphia, since he was a member of the team so recently. For Doug Pederson, the first-year coach of the Eagles, who has changed the style and the culture around this team, he really can’t completely remake the offense, so there might be an intangible edge to be had there for the Vikings. Both of these teams have been very economical on offense, as the Eagles and Vikings ranked third and fourth, respectively in yards per point. And on defense, they are both among the top five in that category. It goes without saying that Peterson and Zimmer are among the top candidates for the coach of the year award.
And under Zimmer, this is a team that has overachieved, to say the least. In fact, the Vikings have covered 19 of their last 22 games with Zimmer at the helm. And they are well-rested, coming off a bye week.
Next up for both teams:
- Minnesota at Chicago Monday, October 31
- Philadelphia at Dallas Sunday, October 30
