The Villanova Wildcats have been ranked as one of the top teams in the country all season long, but they have not been to the Elite Eight since the 2009 season. On Thursday night they will look to make that a reality as they take on the Miami Hurricanes in the semi-finals of the South Region, beginning at 7:10 PM ET at the KFC Yum Center in Louisville. BetAnySports customers can enjoy reduced juice wagering before the game begins, and even after the opening tip-off, they can place wagers on the action as it is progress through the magic of LIve Betting Extra.

The Hurricanes (27-7 straight-up, 19-14 ATS) are the third seed in the region, and they really asserted themselves last time out in order to get here. Wichita State looked like a team that may have been ready to get on a roll, but they were turned back with prejudice by Miami, which shot a blistering 55% from the field and held the Shockers to just 34%. The ‘Canes, under the artful direction of head coach Jim Larranaga, are looking to advance to the Elite Eight for the first time ever. Larranaga, however, has been farther than this in his coaching career, having guided George Mason on a Cinderella run to the Final Four in 2006.

The Wildcats (31-5 SU, 17-17-1 ATS) come into this as the #2 seed in the South Region, but they were actually ranked #1 in the nation for a three-week period last month. That was a first for this school, which does have an NCAA title under its belt (under Rollie Massamino). They beat NC-Asheville in their opener behind 58%, and were also very dominant in the Round of 32, nailing 59% from the field in beating Iowa 87-68. Villanova, which had no regular member of the rotation over 40% from three-point range during the regular season, is 47% accurate from beyond the arc during the NCAA Tournament.

In the NCAA Tournament betting action that has been posted at BetAnySports on this game, the Wildcats are laying a short number:

    Villanova Wildcats -4
    Miami Hurricanes +4

    Over 140 points -110
    Under 140 points -110

Villanova has been a consistent shooting team of late, hitting 48% from the field in seven of their last eight games. They roll mostly with a veteran backcourt consisting of Ryan Arcidiacono, who has played in 140 games for this team, and Josh Hart, a 6-5 off-guard who scored 15.4 points per game and pulls down 6.9 rebounds, and is generally considered one of the nation’s best at his position. Kris Jenkins adds some nice support out of the small forward spot (13.3 ppg), but Vlllanova’s only real shot to do a lot of business down low is center Daniel Ochefu, who has recently been injured but is a shot-blocking threat (1.6 per game) and averages 9.8 points.

Miami likes to think they can match up very favorably with Villanova, and after seeing the ‘Canes deal with Wichita State’s very experienced guard tandem, which has taken that team to a Final Four and Sweet 16 in the last three seasons, many BetAnySports patrons would have to agree. When you look at Angel Rodriguez, you’ve got fiery leadership, and 6-5 Sheldon McClellan and 6-6 Damon Reed bring size, in addition to 27 combined points per game. And all three of them hit at least 80% of their free throws, which means something if it’s a close game. As for bulk up front, well, senior Tonye Jekiri (8.7 rpg) will be dealing with Ochefu.

Depth is something Miami can throw at the opponent at well, with no less than nine different players averaging at least twelve minutes. That comes in handy when playing Larranaga’s “Scramble” defense, which requires constant pressure.
