NCAA Tournament Betting – Virginia vs Butler Saturday March 19th
NCAA Tournament Betting – Virginia Tries to Turn Back Butler in NCAA’s
By Charles Jay
The Virginia Cavaliers are tough as nails on defense; that much has been established. And on Saturday night, they will have another chance to prove that as they go up against a team that is also well-established for its upset-mindedness. The Butler Bulldogs provide the opposition in the Midwest region, with game time at the PNC Arena in Raleigh scheduled for 7:10 PM ET. BetAnySports customers don’t have to stop wagering when the game begins; indeed, they can stay involved with real-time tries against the basketball betting odds through the facilities of Live Betting Extra.
Virginia got through its first-round game on Thursday pretty easily, blasting Hampton by an 81-45 margin. But they survived a scare of sorts, as coach Tony Bennett feinted on the sideline from dehydration and had to be removed from the court. He’s alright, but hadn’t been feeling well all week.
Of course it is Bennett’s “Pack-Line” defense that has helped vault Virginia (27-7 SU, 18-14 ATS) to national prominence. What they try to do is force the other team to hit shots from the outside. Is Butler (22-10 SU, 17-13 ATS) well-prepared for that? Maybe, maybe not.
In the basketball betting odds posted on this NCAA Tournament game at BetAnySports, the Cavaliers are the favorites:
Virginia Cavaliers -7.5
Butler Bulldogs +7.5
Over 130.5 points -110
Under 130.5 points -110
One thing that is obvious from looking at the Butler squad is that they want to push the tempo. They averaged 80 points a game, so they are much more comfortable running it. Virginia is the kind of team that can bring an opponent to a crawl. That is evidenced by he 59 points per game they allow. That is a hallmark of what Bennett and his father Dick have done in the coaching box – they control tempo. And they do it with outstanding players, including ACC player of the year Malcolm Brogdon, who averaged 18.7 points and 4.1 rebounds.
BetAnySports customers should also not forget another thing – Virginia can really drain the three-pointers. The Cavs are shooting 41% from downtown, and guard London Perrantes has been ablaze, going slightly over 50% from beyond the arc.
Butler, who beat Texas Tech on their opener, counters with four players averaging in double digits, and this includes big guard Kellen Dunham (16.3 ppg) and swingman Roosevelt Jones (14 ppg, 6.6 rpg). In the metrics complied at the respected KenPom.com site, however, the Bulldogs are just 117th in Adjusted Defensive Efficiency. Maybe that is what could make the difference. And also keep in mind that Virginia has played twelve unders in their last 14 games.
