There was obviously a lot of talk about the demise of the Green Bay Packers going into their first-round playoff matchup against the Washington Redskins. And some of that was very legitimate. Now, after a rather impressive performance in which they came from eleven points down to win by 17, have the Packers turned their ship in the right direction in time to make a difference against the Arizona Cardinals? We will find out on Saturday night as these teams face off in the Divisional Round of the NFC playoffs. Kickoff is 8:15 PM ET at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ, and while BetAnySports customers watch it on NBC, they can place wagers while the contest is in progress through the magic of Live Betting Extra.

The truth is, Green Bay (11-6 straight-up, 10-7 against the football pointspread) had not been very impressive down the stretch. And when you look at Aaron Rodgers’ statistics, he had not only completed passes for a relatively low percentage (just under 61%) for him, but he also only had 6.7 yards per attempt. Those are very low figures when you compared to the rest of his career. In fact, that per-pass average is two full yards less than he posted two years ago.

But he did have 31 touchdown passes with only six interceptions, and that had to count for something. So did his vast playoff experience, which includes a Super Bowl victory. So the Packers, after going down 11-0 to the Washington Redskins, scored on five consecutive possessions and took control of the game. Rodgers’ statistics were not awe-inspiring, though, as he completed 21 of 36 passes for 210 yards. The Packers’ rushing attack was seemingly more effective, with 141 yards split mostly between Eddie Lacy and James Starks.

In the regular season, Green Bay got off to a 6-0 start and then went 4-6 the rest of the way. In Week 16, they went to Arizona and were humiliated, registering only 178 yards in a 38-8 loss in which Rodgers was beat up, then yanked in favor of backup Scott Tolzien. All told, the Cardinals had nine sacks on the afternoon, and more than doubled Green Bay’s yardage total. Is this something that can be reversed?

Well, we talked just a moment ago about Rodgers’ playoff experience, and that is one area in which he would have an advantage over his counterpart, Carson Palmer, in that the former Heisman Trophy winner, who had only played in the post-season with the Cincinnati Bengals, never won a playoff game.

And BetAnySports patrons know that one of the reasons Rodgers was battered so much is that this team could not effectively compensate for the loss of left tackle David Bakhtiari, who was out of that game with an ankle injury. Backhtiari also missed the playoff game against Washington, but he is practicing this week, and every indication is that he is going to start. He does not give up many sacks of Rodgers, so will be a bit of a different ball game for the Arizona pass rush.

Green Bay finished 11th in the league in yards allowed per drive, and this defense has allowed more than 23 points only once in the last nine games. Of course, that was against the Cardinals, who lead the NFL in yards gained per drive on offense. So perhaps it comes down to what defensive coordinator Dom Capers has up his sleeves in terms of putting some pressure on Palmer, who has enjoyed unusually good protection all season long (only 25 sacks).
