Interestingly enough, for a team that started the season 7-0, and now has a record of 10-4, the Denver Broncos are not even assured a playoff spot at the moment. However, they can take a major step toward securing a first-round bye in the playoffs with a victory on Monday night against the Cincinnati Bengals, who are forging ahead without starting quarterback Andy Dalton. This game will begin at 8:30 PM ET at Sports Authority Field in Denver, and while BetAnySports customers are watching live on ESPN, they can also place wagers while the game is in progress through the considerable wares provided by Live Betting Extra.

Last week the Bengals faced off against the San Francisco 49ers, who have been known to play some tight defense at home, and this was a challenge for AJ McCarron, the former Alabama quarterback who has been pressed into action in place of the injured Dalton. He can did not turn many heads with his 15-21 effort, which included a touchdown pass and 192 yards, and the general consensus is that is going up against a much tougher stop unit this week, as the Broncos have sacked opposing quarterbacks more often than any other team in the league.

The situation with Denver’s quarterbacking situation is clear this week, but there’s no guarantee it will stay that way. Brock Osweiler gets another start behind center, and Peyton Manning is going to be inactive for this game. But he is working out a little, they’ve got to expect that when he is deemed healthy enough to play, there is going to be a genuine controversy. Gary Kubiak likes Osweiler, and appreciates the job he has done under tough circumstances. But really, which guy is better for this team going forward? Well, they have to get there first. The Broncos are only a game ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West.

When you examine what Osweiler has done, you can see that while the opposition may not have a whole lot of tape on him, they are making some pretty good halftime adjustments. In fact, those are very clearly reflected in the statistics – he has completed 73% of his passes in the first halves of games, and is only 49% accurate in the second half. Last week against Pittsburgh as Denver blew a big lead to the Steelers, he completed only seven of his 26 passes after halftime. And of course, most people are aware of the offensive meltdown the Broncos had in the second half against the Oakland Raiders, after holding Oakland to minus-12 yards in the first half.

Obviously a key factor is the rushing game, which gave Osweiler a lot of support in his first three starts. They weren’t horrible last week, but they would probably need to go well past the 104 yards they cumulated in order to help make their substitute quarterback more effective.

BetAnySports patrons know that if Denver is going to go far in the playoffs, regardless of whether it is Osweiler or Manning at the quarterback position, they are going to have to continue to be one of the better defensive teams in football. What they have, first and foremost, is a pass rush that has gotten to opposing signal-callers no less than 47 times, and that can be a very prominent factor, as they are facing a quarterback who has even less experience than their own.

The Broncos permit a microscopic 5.6 yards per pass attempt, and have allowed only 16 touchdown passes. But what a lot of NFL bettors may not have looked at closely enough is that Cincinnati is doing a hell of a job on defense as well. The Bengals are allowing only 6.2 yards per attempt and they have given up fewer points per game than any other team in the league. So when you think about it, this could be the sternest test yet for Osweiler, no matter which half it is.
