The Oakland Raiders have unquestionably shown some improvement under first-year coach Jack Del Rio, and they are still clinging to some open the wild-card race. But in all likelihood, they are going to have to win out over the rest of their schedule, and that is easier said than done. For example, they will encounter a speed bump on Sunday as they go to Sports Authority Field in Denver to face off against the Denver Broncos, who have recaptured their form with three straight victories after suffering back-to-back defeats. As most people know by now, Peyton Manning is out with a foot injury, and it is uncertain when he will return. In the meantime, Brock Osweiler has compiled a 3-0 straight-up record (2-0-1 ATS) at the helm. And he is the guy who is more able to run the offense the way coach Gary Kubiak wants it. Some of the numbers demonstrate that; the Broncos have rushed for 483 yards over the last three games, and the Ronnie Hillman-CJ Anderson tandem has proven to be quite potent.

The Raiders faltered last week against Kansas City, blowing a 20-14 fourth-quarter lead as David Carr tossed three interceptions in the final stanza, including one that was returned for a touchdown. On an overall basis, however, Carr has been much improved in his second season. He is averaging 7.5 yards per attempt, and has 26 touchdowns.

These teams met earlier in the season, when Manning was behind center for the Broncos. It wound up being a 16-10 Denver victory, although the team only rushed for 43 yards. There were no offensive touchdowns in the game for the Broncos, and Manning was intercepted twice. That was the eighth straight win for Denver over Oakland.

With Osweiler at quarterback, Denver is much more concerned with possessing the football. In fact, over their last three games, all wins, they have averaged almost 34 minutes in possession time, and that is an improvement of nearly four minutes over what it was before.

And as BetAnySports customers are well aware, the Broncos carry one of the more menacing defenses into every game. This season their stop unit ranks #1 in the NFL in points allowed per drive, and second in yards allowed per drive. They have surrendered only 3.5 yards per carry, registering 41 sacks. Believe it or not, out of the meager total of 11 touchdown passes they have allowed, only one of them has gone to an opposition wide receiver. That would appear to be bad news for the combination of Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree, who have combined to catch eleven touchdowns. Also of some concern is the fact that Oakland has been outscored by 72 points in the fourth quarter this season, leading to much criticism of offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave, a former Denver backup quarterback.
