To understand the magnitude of this game, let’s take a look at the polls, as well as the college football playoff rankings. Baylor is #3 in the USA Today coaches poll and fourth in the Associated Press Top 25. But they are only sixth in the playoff rankings, and they fear that the same fate that befell them last season will do so again, as they were left out of the top four, despite tying for the Big 12 title. Iowa and Notre Dame are in the two slots just ahead of them. Oklahoma is 11th in the coaches poll and 12 with the AP. They are also #12 in the college playoff rankings.

While Oklahoma has suffered the one defeat, Baylor is a perfect 8-0 on the season, but they will have to go the rest of the way without quarterback Seth Russell. He suffered a neck injury that has put him out of action, and he has been replaced by freshman Jarrett Stidham.

It is true that Stidham has played mistake-free ball on the season, throwing nine touchdowns without an interception. But is only considerable action came in his last game, which was his first experience starting in place of Russell. It came against Kansas State, which had been walloped 55-0 by Oklahoma just a couple of games before that. Well, the Wildcats were considerably more of a headache for Baylor last week, extending them to a 31-24 decision, which constituted, by far, Baylor’s lowest scoring output of the season. So there were generally be some concern over how far the Bears can go with the freshman behind center.

The other side of the coin is that Stidham had 419 yards and three touchdowns in the game, but BetAnySports customers know that Oklahoma is going to offer considerably more resistance. On top of that, they have an edge at quarterback and the ability to trade points. Baker Mayfield, the transfer from Texas Tech, has been a godsend for coach Bob Stoops, as he has 28 touchdown passes with only four interceptions, and has had very little problem whatsoever running the up-tempo offense.

And that is another major consideration here; Oklahoma has scored 46.3 points per game, and they are one of the few teams that can really simulate what Baylor does in practice, because they run things at a pace that is just as fast. If Oklahoma can win out against Baylor, TCU and Oklahoma State, it would be very hard to deny them a place at the table when it comes to the four-team playoff.
