Catching the injury bug is nothing new for the San Diego Chargers, but more often than not, Philip Rivers is able to do something to work around it. But this year it has become increasingly more difficult, as San Diego has lost six of its first eight games. They are on the verge of becoming completely irrelevant in the AFC playoff race, so it is with a certain sense of urgency that they take on the Chicago Bears in the Monday night football game that is scheduled for 8:30 PM ET at Qualcomm Stadium, where the Chargers might be “lame ducks.” BetAnySports will be around for quite a while, however, and customers will have the chance, even after the opening kickoff, to partake in football betting action, as they place wagers on the side, total and various props through the facilities of Live Betting Extra.

For San Diego, it has been a very frustrating four consecutive defeats, and that included a game they could have easily won last week in Baltimore. The 29-26 final came against another desperate team, and the Ravens were able to prevail despite losing their only viable wide receiver, Steve Smith, to an Achilles injury. This team is banged up itself, so there is going to be a severe test of their improvisational skills.

The same can be said for Chicago’s offense, which previously had to go without wide receiver Alshon Jeffery for four games, and now will be without running back Matt Forte, who is absent with a knee injury. They will turn to rookie Jeremy Langford to pick up some of the slack.

Langford has 27 carries for 80 yards so far, so it is almost impossible to handicap what kind of an effect he will have replacing Forte, who is renowned through the NFL for his dual skills as a runner and receiver. But we do know that he had some big numbers at Michigan State, including 1522 yards as a senior.

One of the interesting developments in this offense designed by Adam Case – who previously worked with Peyton Manning at Denver – is that the passer has been protected. Jay Cutler has been sacked only nine times in the six games he has started. And Jeffery has averaged 14.8 yards per catch, showing some great form since he healed from his hamstring pull.

For the Chargers, there really is not a lot of talk about running the football, although maybe there should be, considering that BetAnySports customers saw Melvin Gordon, the rookie from Wisconsin, touch the ball 23 times last week. When it comes to banged-up players, we don’t even know where to start. The offensive line has been dealing with injuries all year long, and it is really difficult to tell who is even going to make post. Two players – King Dunlap and Orlando Franklin – had to leave last week’s game in Baltimore. And Keenan Allen, who has been Rivers’ top target, will be out the rest of the year with a lacerated kidney.

How significant is that? Well, Allen caught 67 passes in the first eight games of the season. That’s how significant it is. But Rivers is likely to keep putting that football in the air; in fact, with 2753 yards, he is on track to break the all-time NFL record for yardage in a season, which is currently held by Peyton Manning. Chicago has given up 16 touchdown passes, so we would not imagine Rivers is going to hold back too much. San Diego has covered just one of its last nine home games. Hello, Los Angeles?
