Notre Dame vs Temple – Week 9 NCAA Football Betting Preview
Temple Has Big Chance Against Notre Dame Saturday

Even though the Temple Owls are ranked for the first time in 36 years, it isn’t all that unusual for a team outside of the “Power 5” conferences to appear in the Top 25. But this team could conceivably run the table, and that is why their game with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday could go a long way toward positioning them for something very strong come bowl season. This game gets underway at 8 PM ET at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. And remember that BetAnySports customers have the chance to keep the football betting action going even after the opening kickoff as they challenge the odds through the considerable facilities of Live Betting Extra.
Notre Dame vs Temple – BetAnySports BETTING LINE:
In the college football betting odds posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, Notre Dame is a double-digit road favorite:
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish -11
- Temple Owls +11
- Over 50 points -110
- Under 50 points -110
The Owls are 7-0, and they are doing it largely with defense. They rank 14th in the nation in that category, yielding less than 4.4 yards per play. Notre Dame is 51st in defense, and obviously they have endured a more challenging schedule. The Irish are also 15th in rushing offense, logging almost six yards a carry, and that is one of the things that has helped them endure the loss of quarterback Malik Zaire. DeShone Kizer, a freshman, has stepped in and done a yeoman’s job, completing 65% with eight TD’s. The Irish have also had a bye week since their 41-31 victory over USC, so they will have a chance to rest up, nurse those nicks and scratches and give Kizer some more practice time with the first unit.
This is a “road” game for the Irish, although everyone knows that they “travel” well, so don’t be surprised if there is a noisy contingent of Irish fans in a stadium that normally does not get sold out for college football. But make no bones about the fact that the Owls will have some support, as they have captured the attention of the City of Brotherly Love. They returned ten starters on the defensive side this year, and interestingly enough, the only team that has been able to run on them at all is Charlotte (5.1 ypc), and that was in the process of a 37-3 Temple victory. Everyone else has been stopped short, and that includes Penn State, which had 77 net yards on 27 carries.

Of course, it should be noted that part of the compilation of rushing stats involves yards lost by sacks, and the Owls sacked Christian Hackenberg TEN times in that game. This was also significant in that it was a successful move up in class. BetAnySports customers know this is often a problem with teams from the so-called “Other 5” conferences. On its remaining schedule, Temple also has American Athletic Conference foe Memphis, which just scored an upset over Ole Miss, so the winner of that game, if still undefeated, might find itself in the running for a “New Year’s Six” bowl game.
Usually teams who win six games, even those in the Sun Belt Conference, get an invitation to a bowl game. Temple was 6-6 in 2014, but they were not invited. That simply won’t be the case this season, but it is clear that they are aiming much higher. If they can succeed in getting some pressure on the freshman quarterback, they could take a major step forward.
