It is well known by now that the Baltimore Ravens have suffered a lot of attrition at the wide receiver position. That is what makes the exploits of Steve Smith even more remarkable than the numbers indicate. However, Smith can’t do everything by himself, and he is going to be harassed on Monday night when he goes up against the Arizona Cardinals’ defense. These teams will do battle at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ at 8:30 PM ET, and BetAnySports customers are extremely lucky as they have the opportunity to place wagers on the action in real-time, through the considerable facilities of Live Betting Extra.

Is playing with for broken bones in his back, if you can believe it. It sidelined him for one game, and last week he was listed as questionable – in effect a gametime decision – but he never had any doubts about his ability to participate. He caught seven passes for 137 yards and was the shining light in Baltimore’s 25-20 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Now they have another assignment out West, and you can believe that even if he is drawing double coverage, quarterback Joe Flacco is going to look for Smith. He has 36 receptions on the season for 510 yards, and he is doing so without a lot of additional threats to take pressure off him. It was hoped by now that Breshad Perryman, the first-round draft choice, may have been able to get into action, but that hasn’t happened yet.

What may be more of a concern for the Ravens than what they are going to do on offense is how they are going to deal with Arizona from a defensive standpoint. Obviously without Terrell Suggs that defensive front has been compromised a bit, but they still have 18 sacks, and if they can get Carson Palmer to move out of the pocket, they might even make a few things happen. Baltimore is done a very good job against the run, allowing just 3.6 yards per attempt. So they should have a chance to neutralize the Cardinals’ ground game, which boasts a 4.7-yard average.

BetAnySports patrons who are interested in Baltimore as the underdog in this game have legitimate concerns that they can’t keep teams from converting on third down. In fact, the opposition has been successful almost 48% of the time against them in those situations. The Baltimore cornerbacks leave a lot to be desired, and Palmer passed for 421 yards last week, even in a losing cause at Pittsburgh.

This is a very unusual spot for Baltimore to be in; they are currently 1-5 straight-up and against the football pointspread. When you consider their ability to reach the playoffs consistently under coach John Harbaugh, this is a very bitter pill to swallow. A 1-6 start virtually disqualifies this team from genuine playoff consideration. That would really spoil the farewell for Smith, who has announced that he will be retiring at season’s end.
