Could this be the year for the Utah Utes? They are in a position where they might be able to compete for the college football playoff, provided they can move through the rest of their season unbeaten. That’s a tall order, of course, because it would also include a conference championship game. But there’s nothing that says it isn’t achievable. Next on the schedule for the Utes is Saturday night’s date with the USC Trojans, which may prove to be their toughest road trip of the season. Game time is 7:30 PM ET at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, and after the opening kickoff, customers at BetAnySports will have a chance to challenge the college football odds in the most exciting way possible – in real-time, with numbers that are constantly changing, with the help of Live Betting Extra.

Maybe USC (3-3 SU & ATS) has been able to settle itself down a little now, after the whirlwind week when Steve Sarkisian revealed that he had personal problems that were a little to serious to overcome, then took a leave of absence, then was fired and replaced by Clay Helton, just in time for a trip to Notre Dame, which resulted in a ten-point loss. They have not lost three games in a row since 2012.

Utah (6-0 straight-up and 4-2 against the football pointspread) is ranked third by the Associated Press and 7th by the USA Today Coaches Poll. And after this week, the most challenging game on the schedule, against UCLA, will be held in Salt Lake City. Of course, the Pac-12 is full of surprises, so no one should take anything for granted.

There is certainly a revenge motive of sorts for the Men of Troy, who were turned back 24-21 by the Utes last season, but that might be almost immaterial to those football bettors who have been disappointed by USC’s effort in dropping straight-up decisions as a favorite to Stanford and Washington at home. Of course, they could potential remain dangerous for any team if Cody Kessler isn’t misfiring. He has been picked off in three straight games, and he has thrown two each against Washington and Notre Dame (both of which came in the fourth quarter). On the season he’s thrown for 1818 yards with 17 touchdowns. There are some who have suggested that the Trojans should rely on Kessler less and run the ball more, but let’s not forget that the offensive line has been weakened to a considerable extent, as All-America center Max Tuerk is out for the year with an injury.

As for what OTHER ground games can do against them, well, BetAnySports patrons have seen teams like Stanford (195 yards), Arizona State (182) and Notre Dame (214) have their way with the USC defensive front. And Utah comes with a rough-and-tumble running back in Devontae Booker, who took things over against California a couple of games ago (222 yards) and is averaging 4.9 yards a pop. He is a workhorse as well, having carried the ball more than 30 times in three different games.

Another interesting matchup involves USC’s offensive line, minus Tuerk, against the Utah pass rush. The Utes led the nation in sacks last season, and they are tied for 31st this year. USC has yielded 15 sacks of Kessler thus far, putting it on a pace that will bring them close to last year’s total of 33.
