BYU vs Michigan – Week 4 College Football Betting Preview
BYU Comes East as Dog vs. Michigan
By Charles Jay
The BYU Cougars were almost able to pull off their third straight upset last weekend, and this would have been against a legitimate top ten team. They will now proceed to try and bounce back from that defeat, and while the opponent might not be quite as formidable, the atmosphere will be considerably more hostile, as they go into Ann Arbor to hook up with the Michigan Wolverines in a game that begins at Noon ET on Saturday. BetAnySports customers can get reduced juice before the game on their wagers, and then they can bet while the action is happening, through the facilities of Live Betting Extra.

BYU, a Mormon school, got some miracles in its first two games, hitting “Hail Mary” TD passes to contribute to victories over Nebraska and Boise State. Those wins were engineered by Tanner Mangum, a 22-year-old true freshman who had recently returned from a mission to Chile. Mangum became an instant hero, and was even hailed by the more enthusiastic Cougar supporters as a Heisman Trophy candidate. Well, he has a lot of guts in the pocket, and is certainly a better passer than the guy he replaced, the oft-injured Taysom Hill.
Last week it was a 24-23 defeat at the Rose Bowl to the UCLA Bruins, in a game where Mangum threw for 244 yards. His team had some success on the ground, but it is what they surrendered over land that has coaches concerned.

The Wolverines appear to be a work in progress, while BYU is ranked 22nd in the country in the Associated Press poll. So why are the Cougars getting all those points?
Maybe one of the reasons is reputation of the respective programs, and the perception that Michigan has found some answers under Harbaugh. The fact of the matter is that they have. Michigan, which suffered some uncharacteristic mistakes from fifth-year senior quarterback Jake Rudock in the season opener against Utah, has bounced back with two straight wins, and they have found some room on the ground. De’Veon Smith ran for 127 yards in a 35-7 rout of Oregon State, then Ty Isaac, a USC transfer, had a 76-yard touchdown run against UNLV. These guys are big and they hit the hole, and BetAnySports patrons saw BYU give up 296 rushing yards to UCLA last Saturday. That’s an average of 7.8 yards per carry.
There is little question that Mangum has the composure to handle the huge crowd in Ann Arbor, and BYU likes to think that it has enough of a running game to give Mangum a diversion. Adam Hine had 149 yards against UCLA, a pretty big feat considering that he had only 154 all of last year. Algernon Brown and Francis Bernard, who were not available to the Cougar backfield last week, are hopeful of being in uniform for this one.
Running the ball has presented a challenge for BYU, since the team saw Jamaal Williams, their top running back, leave school before the season, followed by the injury to Hill, one of the best QB’s in the land when it comes to running the ball.
