NCAA Basketball Betting – UCLA’s Fate Still Up in Air
By Charles Jay
The regular season is over for the UCLA Bruins, but the uncertainty continues. Anybody who does college basketball betting and who follows that thing we lovingly call “bracketology” can see at the various websites that UCLA is usually included in the category of “First Four Out.” That means they will fall just below the cut line when it comes to getting a tournament invitation. What it also means for BetAnySports customers is that they will probably have to do something dramatic in the Pac 12 tournament in order to attract the attention of the NCAA Selection Committee.
The Bruins closed their season with a 19-12 straight-up record, and what would have helped their cause were some very strong performances against good teams. Sweeping Stanford, considered another “bubble” squad, isn’t going to be enough. The best thing they have going for them is a win over Utah, but they also suffered a very painful loss to the Utes, when they shot just 29% and scored 39 points on January 4. They lost by 39 points against Kentucky and 13 points to Gonzaga, and those would have been opportunities for them to really make some headway with the Committee when at-large inclusion was discussed.
They went on a stretch where they played eight “unders” in nine games leading into a showdown of sorts and Arizona, and part of it was that UCLA was playing better defense, and also controlling the tempo much of the time. But slowing down the game did not help them ultimately against the Wildcats, who beat them 57-47. UCLA finished the regular season with consecutive victories over Washington, Washington State and USC. But truth be told, beating any of those lower-rung Pac 12 squads is not necessarily an image-builder.
BetAnySports patrons know that’s a shame, because there is some real talent on the UCLA side. Bryce Alford, the son of coach Steve Alford, has made great strides between last season and this one, and Norman Powell is a dynamite pro prospect at the other guard position.
But if they don’t want to leave things to chance, they might have to create some drama when the conference tournament begins on March 11 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. With teams like Utah, Oregon and Arizona in the field, they could happen upon an opportunity to impress.
Of course, the Bruins are competing against more than just the other conference teams next week. There are also a number of squads who are considered to be on the “bubble,” and they might have to do something to set themselves apart. The teams in question include Texas, which is one of the better defensive teams in the country but which won only seven of its first 17 conference games in the ultra-competitive Big 12; BYU, which recently beat Gonzaga but might find itself to be the “odd man out” if the Committee decides only to take two teams from the West Coast Conference; Illinois, which has a lot of talent but has not exactly closed the Big 10 season with a flourish, and Boise State, which appeared to be surging toward the end and has a chance to be one of the at-large teams out of the Mountain West.
As the conference tournaments begin and all the way through to the Final Four, BetAnySports will be your headquarters for the best in NCAA basketball betting action, and you’ll get more value than anywhere else, because of reduced juice and Dynamic Lines.
