Why are the Phoenix Suns such a big favorite on the road in Wednesday night’s NBA matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves? Some BetAnySports customers might be asking that question. Well, because this is a perfect example of two teams that are going in decidedly opposite directions. The Suns are a team that looks like it is very much on the way up at the moment, having won nine of their last eleven games and holding form with the #8 spot in the ultra-competitive Western Conference, and a chance to reach even higher. The Wolves, on the other hand, are experiencing another injury-ravaged season and are in the midst of a horrific string of games that has seen them lost 18 out of 19 and challenge for the worst record in the league. These teams meet in NBA betting action that is slated to get underway at 9:35 PM ET at the Target Center in Minneapolis.

At the moment, Phoenix is 21-16 straight-up and 22-14 against the basketball pointspread. They are 10-1 ATS in their last eleven. Minnesota has struggled to a 5-28 straight-up mark, which is worst in the West, and better than only one team in the league – the New York Knicks. The T-Wolves are 12-20-1 versus the number.

Minnesota has something of a scheduling “advantage,” if you want to call it that, after a night off, while Phoenix had to travel from Milwaukee after a 102-96 win over the Bucks.

In the NBA betting odds that have been placed on this game by the people at BetAnySports, the Suns are the favorites, by a considerable margin, on the road:

    Phoenix Suns -8.5
    Minnesota Timberwolves +8.5

    Over 214.5 points -110
    Under 214.5 points -110

The Suns had a rather lackluster start last night and stood with just 20 points with four minutes gone in the second quarter. But they became much more efficient offensively after that, scoring 20 points in the final seven minutes and going the last 8-1/2 minutes without a turnover. Markieff Morris had early foul trouble but came back to score 26 points and snare ten rebounds. And the Bucks’ fast break was completely shut down in the final period. The Suns shot a little less than 46%, but in four of the previous five contests they were 50% or better.

And now they face the team with the worst defense in the NBA. The T-Wolves have yielded 49.6% shooting, and have allowed allowed more points in the paint then anybody else. BetAnySports customers know that it was hard enough to prevent second chance points without the presence of Kevin Love, who was traded before the season to the Cleveland Cavaliers. But they have been playing without their capable center, Nikola Pekovic, who has been out since mid-November with an ankle injury. And on top of that, two key offensive components have been missing – Kevin Martin, the scorer deluxe who is dealing with a broken wrist, and point guard Ricky Rubio, who has been out for quite some time with an ankle sprain. The good news for coach Flip Saunders is that he could be getting all three players back in a matter of weeks. The bad news is that it will be too late to make any kind of a playoff run.
