The Wisconsin Badgers suffered an indignity in their last game that they perhaps never thought they would have to endure. BetAnySports customers know they are going to have an opportunity to make up for that in the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day, but they will have to do it without the head coach who has led them throughout the season. Instead, they will have a familiar face on the sideline as they take on the Auburn Tigers in their attempt to beat the college football odds, which commences at Noon ET.

Wisconsin lost 59-0 in the Big Ten championship game against Ohio State, and then lost their head coach when Gary Andersen, who took off for Oregon State, which may have taken some of the Badgers’ supporters by surprise. So Barry Alvarez, the school’s athletic director who served a head coach for years, will once again step into the role of coach for this game, as he did two seasons ago in the Rose Bowl, which Wisconsin lost 20-14 to Stanford.

Auburn had some hopes of getting into the college football playoff, as they were rated in the top four more than midway through the season, but they fell apart in the second half, culminating in a 55-44 season-ending loss to archrival Alabama in the Iron Bowl game, which gave them four defeats on the season. They are 8-4 straight-up and 4-8 against the football pointspread. Wisconsin is 10-3 straight-up and 6-7 against the number.

In the college football odds that have been posted on this game at BetAnySports, the Tigers are favored by a full touchdown:

    Auburn Tigers -7
    Wisconsin Badgers +7

    Over 63.5 points -110
    Under 63.5 points -110

Wisconsin was on a seven-game winning streak before running into Ohio State and first-time starter Cardale Jones, and were starched. In this game they will be going against a veteran. Nick Marshall was a 60% passer, and he added 780 rushing yards, and he has lots of experience running Gus Malzahn’s spread. He’s got the go-to running back in Cameron Artis-Payne (1482 yards), as well as a very talented duo of receivers in D’Haquille Williams and Sammy Coates.

In its last six “real” games (Samford doesn’t really count), Auburn has allowed 30 points or more, and Wisconsin has the ability to exploit vulnerable defenses. Melvin Gordon may have been held to just 73 yards in the Big Ten title game, but he has averaged 7.3 yards and totaled 2336 on the year, with that 408-yard effort that everybody remembers in the game against Nebraska. BetAnySports patrons should keep in mind that Auburn gave up 289 yards on the ground to Georgia and 227 to Alabama, and they allowed 89 points in those games.

There has been a shakeup in the coaching staff as well. Malzahn fired his defensive coordinator, Ellis Johnson, after the team blew a double-digit lead and yielded 55 points against the Crimson Tide, and Charlie Harbison, who coaches the safeties, will fill that role, with former Florida Will Muschamp set to arrive to take over as coordinator going forward.

The big question as far as Wisconsin is concerned is how much they can move it with shaky quarterback Joel Stave (54%, 8 TD’s, 7 INT’s), in the event Auburn over-stacks its defense to deny the run.
