Winner of USC vs UCLA So Cal Classic May Return To Rose Bowl Six Weeks From Now

    By Charles Jay

The South division of the Pac-12 is very crowded at the moment, and that state of affairs was created when Arizona State unexpectedly to Oregon State last weekend. There are four teams in the division that conceivably have a chance to face off against the Oregon Ducks, who will win the North division. Two of those teams will meet on Saturday in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, as the USC Trojans take the short ride to face the UCLA Bruins in football betting action that begins at 8 PM ET. The game will be televised live on ABC.

Currently, USC leads the division with a 6-2 conference record, but UCLA, Arizona State and Arizona are all tied with 5-2 records. Arizona State and Arizona will face off next week, so everything could be straightened out by then.

Football Betting Odds USC vs UCLA

USC is 7-3 straight-up overall, with a pointspread record of 5-5. The Trojans are ranked 24th in the nation in both major polls, and they are #19 in the Playoff Rankings. UCLA is 8-2 straight-up and 3-7 against the football pointspread. The Bruins are 11th in the Associated Press bowl, 12th in the coaches poll, and #9 in the Playoff Rankings.

In the football betting odds that a been posted on USC vs UCLA at BetAnySports, UCLA is the favorite at home:

    UCLA Bruins -4.5
    USC Trojans +4.5

    Over 61 points -110
    Under 61 points -110

Whether there are national championships on the line or not, this is an intense rivalry, and it always has been. In this particular case, the winner keeps itself alive for a possible trip to the Rose Bowl (the game, not the Stadium, although the game is being played IN the Stadium. Get it?). Under coach Jim Mora, UCLA has won and covered the last two years. In last season’s meeting, they won a 35-14 decision, with the UCLA pass rush sacking Cody Kessler six times. As most BetAnySports customers recall, the USC program was in a bit of confusion last year, as Lane Kiffin was fired and Ed Orgeron took over, but clearly things were not right all season.

This year football bettors have seen a bit of a change under Steve Sarkisian, a former assistant at USC who had a semi-successful tenure as head coach at Washington. A former quarterback coach, he seems to have done some good work with Kessler, who has thrown 29 touchdown passes and been intercepted only three times. He had one of his better games against California last week, throwing for 370 yards and four touchdowns. Nelson Agholor had 16 catches for 214 yards in that game. Obviously that’s where UCLA will turn most of the attention of its secondary.

Brett Hundley is considered one of the top NFL prospects among the current crop of college quarterbacks, and he has impressed people with his ability to run with the football as well. BetAnySports patrons know that his mobility will come in handy here, as it has in all of UCLA’s games, because offensive line difficulties have allowed opponents to put a lot of pressure on him. Hundley, who has completed an incredible 72% of his passes and been intercepted only four times, has also suffered 29 sacks. Those looking for encouraging signs might want to point to the fact that Hundley was sacked “only” twice two weeks ago by the Washington Huskies, who have one of the most effective pass rushes in college football.
