Oregon Hopes Utah Doesn’t Pose a Road Block

    By Charles Jay

When we talk about nice recoveries, that is exactly what the Oregon Ducks have done as they’ve come on strong after their only loss of the season and are squarely in the national title picture. That is, as long as they can stay undefeated the rest of the way. On Saturday they will take on a very tough opponent when they lock horns with the Utah Utes in NCAA football betting action that takes place at 10 PM ET in Salt Lake City.

Oregon, which has won four games in a row, is now situated in the #4 position in the Playoff Rankings, meaning that if the season ended today, they would be in the four-team playoff for the national championship. That is an improvement upon their position in both major polls, where they are fifth. Utah, which lost a heart-breaking 19-16 overtime game to Arizona State last week, his 20th in the Associated Press poll, 22nd in the coaches’ poll, and 17th in the Playoff Rankings.

College football betting lines Oregon vs Utah: Oregon is favored by more than a touchdown on the road:

    • Oregon Ducks -8
    • Utah Utes +8
    • Over 60 points -110
    • Under 60 points -110

It most certainly was disappointing for Oregon, after getting off to a 4-0 start that included a 19-point win over Michigan State, to lose for the second straight season, and at home no less, to the Arizona Wildcats. The 31-24 defeat took place. on October 2, and it was a lowlight in the sense that they just couldn’t seem to figure out how to protect quarterback Marcus Mariota, who was sacked five times in that game after the relatively-defenseless Washington State Cougars dropped him seven times in the previous game. Injuries on the offensive line really hurt Oregon.

But as BetAnySports customers have noticed, things got better on the interior. Left tackle Jake Fisher came off the injury list and back to action, and everything on offense perked up. Oregon has scored 191 points over its last four games, and Mariota, who has been sacked only four times in those last four contests, continues to be the front-runner for the Heisman Trophy. He has had a phenomenal season, with just two interceptions in 248 attempts. He is the leader in passing efficiency in Division I football, and he also gets it done with his feet, averaging 5.8 yards per rushing attempt. He runs the spread offense like he invented it. And he is the main reason why the ducks are currently listed as the +500 favorite at BetAnySports to capture the national championship.

There is a little bit of concern, however, as right tackle Matt Pierson suffered a knee injury (perhaps a sprained MCL) in last week’s 45-16 victory over Stanford, and as of this writing it is unknown as to whether he can make post. It should be noted among NCAA football bettors that any absence along the offensive line could be critical, because Utah leads the nation with 39 sacks. It won’t take that much of an opening for them to have Mariota running for his life.

What is kind of uncertain is how Utah will move the ball. Coach Kyle Winningham thought he had the answer in 6′ 7″ quarterback Travis Wilson, but Wilson had only 57 passing yards against Arizona State, and that is a huge disappointment. Another option is Kendal Thompson, the Oklahoma transfer, who is more of a running quarterback but unrefined when throwing. Again, the key man on offense will be Devontae Booker, who is ten yards shy of 1000 on the season. They need to do something to move thre chains and keep the Ducks’ offense off the field.

BetAnySports is unquestionably your headquarters for NCAA football betting action this season, as they offer lightning-quick payouts and live in-game betting that will bring lots of thrills and chills (but hopefully not spills) to your sports betting experience!
