  • 2016 NFL Odds Preview of the AFC North

Here are the odds to win the AFC North, as they have been posted at BetAnySports:

    • Pittsburgh Steelers +122
    • Cincinnati Bengals +182
    • Baltimore Ravens +335
    • Cleveland Browns +2600

2016 NFL Odds – Pittsburgh Steelers

Well, Le’Veon Bell is suspended for the first four games of the season, so the Pittsburgh Steelers (+122) will have to come up with some kind of strategy to work around him. At least center Maurkice Pouncey should be back in the lineup, and that will help to stabilize the offensive line. Obviously Ben Roethlisberger was operating with perhaps the most complete set of receivers in the conference, but the depth of that unit was compromised with the suspension of Martavis Bryant. Antonio Brown had 134 catches last season for 1834 yards, but Markus Wheaton is going to have to do more to fill the gap. The defense should be a little steadier in its second season under Keith Butler. Last year they had lost a lot of leadership, but they’ll have to defend the pass better. Can first-round draft choice Artie Burns provide an answer?

2016 NFL Odds – Cincinnati Bengals

The problem with the Cincinnati Bengals (+182 at BetAnySports) may be just getting over the unbelievable disappointment of how they lost last season’s playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. How many first-round playoff exits are the people in management going to deal with from Marvin Lewis? Well, as long as he gets them to the post-season, he must be secure. Can Andy Dalton continue the progress he was making last season, when he was one of the highest-rated quarterbacks in the league until he broke his thumb? There is plenty to choose from when it comes to the backfield, as Jeremy Hill and Giovanni Bernard, considering their complementary talents, can be the most effective combination in the NFL. Dalton needs another genuine threat to go with AJ Green out wide, and Brandon LeFell was brought aboard in hopes of doing just that. Linebacker Vontaze Burfict showed his utter immaturity in that ill-fated playoff game, but Lewis hopes that Karlos Dansby, who came over from Cleveland, can add some veteran leadership to that group.

2016 NFL Odds – Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens (+335 to win the division at BetAnySports) really got racked up by injuries last season, and just getting healthier will constitute an improvement over the 5-11 mark they were able to manage in 2015. One of the problems Joe Flacco has often had is lack of true explosiveness in the receiving corps, and that is a need that was addressed with the addition of Mike Wallace, who didn’t have great chemistry with Ryan Tannehill in Miami or Teddy Bridgewater in Minnesota. Justin Forsett returns from a broken arm that sidelined him; he came alive when he assumed a Ravens uniform. Free agent acquisition Eric Weddle has the opportunity to make a lot of difference; he grew unhappy in San Diego. It would be a big boost if Elvis Dumervil could return to his production levels of 2014, when he had 17 sacks.

2016 NFL Odds – Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns (+2600 at BetAnySports) have gone through some changes, not the least of which is at the head coaching position. Hue Jackson replaces Mike Pettine, who tried his best to handle the Johnny Manziel situation but was ultimately unsuccessful. In comes another potential powder keg in Robert Griffin III, who basically sat out all of 2015 as coach Jay Gruden had already soured on him. He’ll have Corey Coleman, a first-round pick out of his alma mater (Baylor) to work with, but he’ll have to wait for Josh Gordon, who will miss the first four games of the season with a suspension. The defense, which had only eleven interceptions last season, is not capable of picking up the slack if the offense can’t produce.
